Recover From Sexual BetrayalSýnishorn
What Is Self-Care for a Christian?
Self-care is often misunderstood in Christian circles because we hear so much about "denying self." When we talk about self-care here, we are talking about caring for a precious person that GOD created, you! If you don't take care of you, you cannot take care of anyone else, nor can you fulfill your calling or walk for your purpose in life.
Caring for ourselves comes in many forms. Eating well, getting enough rest, taking care of the things God has entrusted to us. Did you know that we are also called to love ourselves? We don't hear much of that in sermons, but you can search the Word for yourself with today's assigned Scripture reading. We cannot love others unless we love God and ourselves!
Self-care can be different things for different people. It can be taking time out for yourself to get quiet with God and/or His creation. Self-care can be participating in a hobby you enjoy. Self-care can be spending time with people who speak life into you. Self-care can be offering grace to someone else and compassion to yourself. Self-care can be anything that promotes healing. Self-care is reminding you that you are fearfully and wonderfully made and that God created you uniquely with a purpose that only He can fulfill through you!
Prayer: Father, I thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made and that you want me to care for what you have entrusted to me. I thank you that you want me to get rest and receive life-giving truth in your Word and your promises for my life. I pray you will help me to know where I need to care for myself better. In Jesus' name, Amen.
