DAY 16 OF 27

Scripture

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! Psalm 95:1-2

Summary

Football games, concerts, and parties prove that human beings know how to be loud when we're excited. Really loud! And yet, as we come to worship our Savior, we can tend to be reserved...perhaps even disengaged. Why so? Two times in this passage, David commands us to make a JOYFUL NOISE to the Lord. A joyful noise ought to be loud and lively. It should explode with passion and excitement. There should be shouts, cheers, and sounds of celebration. Why? Because God gave us life...He gives us breath...He pours out blessing upon blessing. Above all, He laid down His life to save us from Hell and to give us an eternal existence in the Paradise of God. For all this, we should SHOUT for joy! Louder and more enthusiastically than at any football match, concert, or party. Truly, God is worthy!

Discussion Questions

1. What are the outward signs of a group of people that are excited, joyful, & thankful?

2. Why can't we see the excitement of what God did (and does) for us?

3. Does our church's worship lean more towards loud & excited or quiet & reverent?

4. How can we help our church grow in obeying this command to make a joyful noise?

5. Any other thoughts, comments, ideas or questions you'd like to share?

Closing Prayer

Lord, forgive us that we are more excited about cheering for a football team than for our Savior. Forgive us that we don't see the value and worth of all you've done. Help us to understand how incredible you are and how glorious our future redemption is going to be. Help us to be filled with excitement and gratitude about it! Teach us how to shout for joy, and not be ashamed. Help us to worship you as you deserve. In Jesus' name. Amen.
