A Single Life to Live

DAY 3 OF 5

God is Working in Your Waiting

Do you ever feel stuck in a waiting room of singleness? Your friends may be in relationships, go through a breakup where they join you in the waiting room, and then pop right back into a relationship before you can even have tea with them. As you watch their life, you feel like nothing is happening in yours. You are just stuck in the waiting room of singleness, wondering when your name will finally get called so you can leave.

Waiting is hard, especially when we have no idea if or when that waiting will end. Thankfully, God has been known to do incredible things in waiting. One beautiful example is with Jesus and His friend, Lazarus.

In John 11, Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick. After getting the sad news, Jesus actually waited two days to go and visit Lazarus. Lazarus ended up dying, but then Jesus came and miraculously raised him from the dead.

Jesus could have gone to Lazarus and healed him right away instead of allowing Lazarus and his loved ones to suffer. Why did Jesus wait and let everyone feel the sorrow, pain, and hardship that went with Lazarus’ death?

When Jesus first received the news that Lazarus was sick, He said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it (John 11:4).” He later said He waited so that those around Him, “may believe that you sent me (John 11:42).”

God allows us to sit in waiting rooms so that he can unfold His plans to have His glory spread to more people. If Jesus simply healed Lazarus’ sickness, that might have impressed people, but it is nothing compared to the impact He made by raising Lazarus from the dead.

The Bible says, “...for on account of him (Lazarus) many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him (John 12:11).” God allowed waiting in Lazarus story and look what happened. Many people will be in heaven because of that event! God is allowing waiting in your story, and who knows what amazing things He could be doing through that.

Romans 8:28 says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” If you feel like you are waiting, life is not just passing by. God is working out your life in your waiting. Can you trust that He is the best author for your life and is using what you are experiencing now for the good of His eternal kingdom?
