I Believe It (The Life of Jesus)

DAY 1 OF 5

I Believe It (The Life of Jesus) - Day 1 Devotional

It’s More Than A Story

It’s not just a story; it’s a living, breathing, walking testimony of a God so good He’d leave His home in glory for the world He loved, for the world that He so loved.

I remember saying to myself, “If I’d never believed it before, I sure do believe it now.” Everything I’d ever read or heard came rushing into full color. It’s almost as if the life of Jesus rose from the pages and was staring at me in my tear-drenched eyes. This was my experience when I got the opportunity to gaze at the Sea of Galilee with my own eyes- I will NEVER forget it.

Over seven miles wide and twelve miles long, I took in the expanse of it and all I could think about was all that Jesus accomplished around this great body of water. I could tangibly feel His presence, and there was no need to doubt.

I kept being struck by the fact that I’d thought all of this was so much more basic than it actually is. Every now and then, I still hear the old term “back to the basics”, and we use that term to describe foundational things. It’s just that I realized there was really nothing basic about the life of Jesus. But I feel like we have such a familiarity with Him and with the miracle of God’s plan of redemption that it loses some of its awe-inspiring impact on us. We can forget to be overwhelmed by the miracle of it all. Without Jesus and His sacrifice for us, making a way for us to be reconciled to God, we’d not only be lost... we’d be utterly without hope.

In writing I Believe It (The Life of Jesus), we had a strong sense that it was time to be reminded of the miracle of it all. When I sing this song, I constantly think about that trip, and I’m amazed all over again.

Matthew 7:24-29: When we build on a firm foundation of Christ, we can withstand whatever comes our way. A foundation based on God produces steadfast faith and life.

About this Plan

I Believe It (The Life of Jesus)

It's not just a story ... "I Believe It (The Life of Jesus)" was a song that came out of a trip I was able to take to Israel and the chance to visit the Sea of Galilee. I will never forget the tangible & incredibly real presence of God that I experienced there. The impact of that moment and the realization that we'd be lost without the miracle of God's redemption should lead us to a proclamation of what we believe. This 5 day devotional focuses on the foundations of our faith and yet reminds us not to lose the awe and wonder in God's plan of redemption.
