You Are Unshaken: Finding Security in God in an Uncertain World

DAY 3 OF 4

You Are Not Powerless

A feeling many women share is that we are not enough and that we are powerless to do anything about it. In response, the world shouts shallow sound bites at us about how we are “always enough.” It’s a banner of self-love, self-acceptance, and self-sufficiency.

There’s just one problem: we aren’t enough. That’s the point. We need Jesus, His grace, His love, and His enablement each moment. We cannot do this life on our own.

But just because you’re not enough in your self-sufficiency doesn’t mean you’re not immensely valuable and deeply loved. It doesn’t mean you’re powerless. It means your brokenness and weakness are where you find God’s grace sufficient. “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

It’s not fun to admit we are not enough. Yet admitting our weakness, our dependency, allows us to stop putting so much energy into trying to look and feel like we have it all together. Acknowledging that we are not enough helps us to be honest and vulnerable, and it also allows others to show up with their faults and weaknesses.

Believing the lie that you are enough leads to more disappointment, more self-doubt, and more frustration with yourself and others. You are not enough, but the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is alive in you! And God has intimately crafted you to reveal His character in a way no one else can.

You may be lacking, but God is your strength. He is enough, He is able, and He will sustain you: “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:7–9). There has never been and never will be a time when God will not be enough for you.

In what ways recently have you felt you were “not enough.” How would believing that God is enough for you change your perspective on this season of your life?
