Real Hope: VisionSýnishorn
Leave Space for God
‘Dad! There’s so much space up here. This place is massive.’ The kids are rampaging through the sprawling empty rooms of our new home. New to us at least.
The blinds are all open; there’s a whiff of damp concrete wafting from under the internal garage door. The bedroom and bathroom doors are all ajar as if still bidding a mournful farewell to the last family.
Now, the barking cheep of the reversing furniture removalist arriving with our things. Trolley loads of boxes are stacked three high in every room.
Have you ever noticed how quickly the ‘massive rooms’ become much smaller when the furniture arrives? Before you know it, you’re stepping over the same school shoes and bags, squeezing a car into an overstuffed garage when the hail comes, and wondering how the home became as small as the last one so quickly.
At the threshold of a new year, are the rooms of your heart open and light-filled, or are they congested with old fears and ‘furniture’? Is there anything that’s keeping Jesus on the other side of the room? He’s calling your name and is so committed to a relationship with you that He gave up His own life for you.
Is today the day to move some things around or even out, to allow you to be near to Jesus? Wonderfully, you don’t need the strength of a piano mover to get it done.
In James 4:8, the God of the universe longs for you to be close to Him and will help you do it.

About this Plan
While many people start a year with resolutions, we wanted to start the year with vision: the vision that God has for His people and the calling He has placed on every one of our lives. Let’s start the year not with things to fix or improve, but with the vision to see past the ordinary day-to-day and to look to the future God has set for us.
