Biblical Advice on Living WellSýnishorn
Reflecting on your life
“Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)
Many people take the start of a new year as a motivation to make changes to their lifestyle. They resolve to exercise more, lose some weight, pray more often, spend more time with their children, and so on. Unfortunately, most of these resolutions don’t last long and people fall back to their old routines pretty quickly.
Irrespective of the time of the year, it is a good idea to reflect on your life every now and then. The most helpful “guide” to help you decide what should be your priorities and which habits you need to quit, is the Bible. Not only does it contain God’s guidelines for us humans, it also gives us an insight into the lives of people who had a close relationship with God and shared their experiences with other believers. We can profit from their examples.
For it is not unimportant how you live. God will assess “every deed... whether good or evil”. That’s a serious reminder! It is your duty to “fear God and keep His commandments”. Of course, you can only do so if you know God and His commandments. Do you know Him? If not, what could you do to get to know the Lord God better?
