Pray in Faith: Victory in SurrenderSýnishorn
How can I pray in faith for victory over sin?
Read It
1 John 1:5-10
This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
Meditate On It
All of us have had our fair share of faults and failures — we have fallen short of God’s holy standard because of our sins. But the good news is that Jesus grants us a way to receive His grace and to come to Him for transformation. We only have to believe in His finished work on the cross and confess our sins to Him, turning away from our selfish and sinful ways.
Consider the following questions:
1. According to John’s letter, what is the symbolic meaning of “light” and “darkness”?
2. What areas of your life are “in the dark” that need to be brought into God’s light?
3. What are the repercussions if one continues to stay in the dark and continues on with sin? On the other hand, what is the effect when one walks in the light?
4. How can you receive Jesus’ forgiveness and cleansing?
Apply It
1. How is my walk with the Lord? Do I still have favorite or secret sins I keep in the dark? What do I need to repent of today and confess to Christ?
2. Who is my accountability partner that I can open up to? How can I become more transparent and vulnerable with my spiritual community (Family, Discipleship Group, Church Community)?
3. By faith, I will surrender this certain aspect of my life to the Lord.
Set Simple, Measurable, Appropriate, Realistic, Time-bound (SMART) commitments.
Example: “I will cultivate a life of dependence on God through daily prayer and Bible reading (1 chapter a day) starting today.”
Pray It
• Let us pray in faith for God to grant us victory in such areas as:
- Pride, selfishness, self-sufficiency, secret sins
- Idolatry, greed, materialism - Sexual purity, self-control, integrity
- Addictions (alcohol, drugs, pornography, digital addiction/gaming, gambling, etc.)
- Bad influences, ungodly relationships, gossip, slander, lying
- Spiritual warfare and attacks of the enemy
- Mental and emotional health (depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts)
• Confess and ask forgiveness for sin, shortcomings, and any bondage or addictions; seek God’s restoration in our lives as we repent and surrender.
• Ask the Lord for a personal breakthrough in seeking God’s wisdom and counsel for your life; let the Holy Spirit provide a spiritual revival for you with renewed strength and zeal to follow Him faithfully.
