Trust God. Every time I’ve read this passage, the theme that grips me is the concept of trust. This passage addresses a group of people and reminds them to hold onto the truth God has given them. In the face of uncertainty, we have a choice to make. We can allow the noise of the world around us to overwhelm us or trust the truth God has given us.
The truth is we already have everything we need through God. We have peace, victory, hope, eternal life, and so much more in Him. Though it is true that God didn’t promise us an easy life and hard circumstances will arise, He promised that He would be with us every step of the way.
In this passage, the author reminds us that when you know God, you know the truth and that what is not from God are lies. If you are facing a difficult circumstance today, I want to encourage you to identify lies and truth. If you are unsure what truth from God can apply to your circumstances, take a moment to look at God's promises throughout the Bible. Promises like He will never leave nor forsake us, He is our strength, He gives us true peace, and so much more. Look at the names of God given throughout the Bible. He is called our peace, victory, healer, hope, and the list goes on! Those are not just nice phrases; these are promises into which we can put our full trust.
Practically, you can hold onto this truth by doing two things: knowing His Word and knowing Him. When you spend time with God and read the Word of God, it becomes easier to recognize and negate the lies because you are closely acquainted with the truth.
Prayer Points:
- Take a moment to thank God for the gift of God’s Word and that, once we know His truth, lies cannot lead us astray.
- Pray for the Holy Spirit to show you any areas in which you may have believed lies about your circumstance.
- Ask for wisdom and clarity in uncertain areas to separate any lies from the truth.
