Starve the Flesh With Judah Lupisella

DAY 3 OF 3

Fix Your Focus

To dwell on something is to think about something for some time constantly. To physically dwell somewhere is to live somewhere. Therefore, we could say that to dwell on certain things is to allow those things to live within our minds.

What are you allowing to live in your mind? Is it music that degrades the godly life that you’re called to live? Is it a particular movie or TV show that instills fear and anxiety within you? Is it a secret website you view when nobody is around that isn’t as harmless as you think? Is it a certain video game? Is it the news? What is it that lives in your mind? Though that list doesn’t nearly cover a fraction of the influences in our world, we already know that we live in a culture that indoctrinates people in the most discreet ways possible.

This is another reason why it’s so important to be in God’s Word daily. If you don’t know His Word, you can’t discern what isn’t true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, or worthy of praise. The world will try to provide you with many things that appear good but aren’t from God. Only God is good, so anything not of God is not good.

To clarify, I’m not telling you to isolate yourself and become a monk or nun. I am telling you, though, to be careful about what you allow to live inside your mind. Many things stand at the door of your mind, knocking and wanting to come inside, but which ones will you allow inside? Which ones will you finally kick out? Let the Holy Spirit guide you, as His Word leads you, to discern whether or not something will be granted access to live and dwell within your mind.
