Year of the Bible: Part Ten of TwelveSýnishorn
The Power that Exists in the Fullness of God
The Colossian church faced false teaching that over-emphasized the importance of cosmic beings. They needed to know that Jesus is above it all.
Jesus is the image of God; He created everything. Therefore, everything created, whether cosmic, angelic, physical, or spiritual, depends on Him for existence. The book of Job says that if God were to withhold His breath, everything would cease to exist (Job 34:13-15).
Everything, whether willingly or not, depends on and exists with God's permission and by the word of His mouth. The Bible says God's heart is to reconcile everything to Himself. This God, who has the power to create or undo creation, is working to put all things back to the way He originally intended: in relationship with Him.
We have the opportunity for a relationship with the Being that existed before time, before anything was created, and Who rules over the very things we are often intimidated by. Jesus is the fullness of God, and He is here to make peace. Don't seek hope in other places. There is no greater hope in the entire universe than Jesus!
Question: When have you replaced relating to God to instead seek wisdom, knowledge, or hope in something He created?
Prayer: Meditate on who Jesus is and ask God to reveal His majesty over all created and circumstantial matters.
