A Peaceful Season: A 5-Day Bible Plan on Having Peace During the Holiday Season

DAY 4 OF 5

Peace and Therapy

The busyness and mere complexities of life can swiftly create the illusion that peace is unattainable. Hardship and moments of uncertainty shake up the human experience resulting in doubt, weariness of spirit, and avoidance. Our vulnerabilities often become more visible during the holiday season while visiting family, being the subject of judgment, or refusing to conform to generational behavior patterns. These moments are perfect for Christ’s parallel understanding emphasizing that “…we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin” (Hebrews 4:15 (NIV)).

These are opportunities to encourage the implementation of your faith by using mental health resources, finding a therapist, and trusting that wholeness is your portion. Christ knows the depths of your emotional difficulty at all times. Therapy positions you for the intersection of healing and deep self-work while honoring your foundation in faith to embrace the fullness of your humanity and experiences.

Comfort comes from the careful assessment of your needs, the richness of your narrative, and God’s all-encompassing intervention via the empathy and presence of a skilled counselor. Many find peace in working with a therapist to process family difficulties, your efforts at self-discovery, and growing toward Isaiah 40:1’s “Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.”

God desires that we are comfortable in our existence with the gift of coming to Him in faith, resolve, and vulnerability to solve our problems and allow ourselves peace. The grace and healing of a believer don’t rest on the understanding that we’ll never experience hardship but on the supplemental truth that God is all-encompassing despite the heaviness of your lived experience. Please take the space to get a therapist - they make life a bit easier, even when you are searching for yourself in the dark.
