Money Matters: Devotions From Time of GraceSýnishorn
Thinking About Money God’s Way: It’s All His
A bank teller looks at her cash drawer at the end of the day and says, “Mine.” Foolish. A heavy equipment operator plans on driving home in the road grader he’s been in all day. “Mine,” he says. Foolish. The youthful jewelry store clerk looks at the gems in the glass case and says, “Mine.” Utterly foolish. They are laying claim to things that didn’t originate with them and don’t belong to them.
One of the reasons that the theory of evolution is such a blight on Christianity is that it denies the Creator’s work and ownership. King David laid out a beautiful, elegant truth: “The earth is the LORD’S, and everything in it” (Psalm 24:1). Everything in the universe leaped into being at the sound and power of his creative word. Everything in the universe has a wonderful, loving purpose, and everything in the universe absolutely, positively belongs to God.
Thinking like this is learned behavior, and it has to be relearned on a regular basis. The Grand Canyon is his. The Rockies are his. The Great Lakes are his. The contents of my wallet, my checkbook, my portfolio, and my IRA belong to my God. And I get to enjoy them and use them for him. It’s all good.
