Dash: Seeing Life Through the Lens of Eternity

DAY 2 OF 5

Going Against the Flow

In Matthew 4:18-22 Jesus spoke to some fishermen and asked them to join Him on a mission to fish for people. They immediately dropped their nets and followed Him because their hearts were open to what He asked them to do. Jesus speaks to us today just as He spoke to them, with love, authority, and encouragement.

God is calling us into a life of purpose and eternal impact. Giving our lives to Christ determines where we spend eternity. That alone is incredible! But the story doesn’t end there. Our focus in life as Christ followers affects how we spend eternity! There is eternal reward stored up by the Lord for how we live for Him on Earth.

There is no such thing as a safe, comfortable Christian life. Living for the Lord with an eternal perspective is the narrow path rather than the easy road (Matthew 7:13-14). It involves picking up our cross and following Jesus no matter the cost. Amazingly, it is actually in giving up and laying down that we experience life to the full (John 10:10). There will always be the temptation to push His voice to the side and choose the easy road. But it’s time to say yes to the naturally supernatural life and experience the joy of living sold out for Christ.

Here are a few simple ways to be more open to God’s call on our lives:

  • Listen for His voice each day.
  • Remember that the Christian journey is a marathon and not a sprint.
  • Godly habits now produce a large change in the future.
  • God will show you the next step, not the whole staircase (Psalm 119:105).
  • He promises that He will always be with us. (Matthew 28:20)

Point to Ponder: In what area of life is God calling you to take a step of faith and trust?

Dear Heavenly Father, it is not always easy to listen for your voice and follow you. Thank you that you are always with me. Today, and every day I want to choose the narrow path. Amen.
