Hope for Wounded Hearts: Readings From Isaiah

DAY 4 OF 5

Think about this question as you reflect on today’s readings: How did Jesus experience physical, social, and spiritual pain?

The Lord’s Suffering

Jesus was socially rejected, disregarded, and marginalized by many people (53:3). He took on sin and bore the full weight of our spiritual guilt (53:5). He experienced severe physical torture and affliction (53:7). He endured this suffering to save us and to identify with the ache of being human. Since Jesus went through great hardships, we can trust that he understands and empathizes with our suffering.

Reflect on your story:

  • How does the foretelling of the suffering of Christ, and the fact that he suffers with you, give perspective to the things you are experiencing today?
