Shameless in Paradise
The core reasons we were created and put on this planet were for connections and relationships with God and one another. The enemy of connection is shame, but the cure for shame is vulnerability, the ability to be fully known. Vulnerability is facilitated through authenticity. Authenticity means letting go of who others want you to be, so you can be who you really are. These are the kind of worshipers heaven is looking for: those who are shameless and unafraid of their weaknesses, who know the beauty that God works into their brokenness because they live in the light where there is nothing hidden. In other words, what you see is what you get!
Jesus is the Master of inviting people out of their caves of shame and into the light of His countenance. David said, “In Your light we see light” (Psalm 36:9). As Jesus did with the Samaritan woman, He sheds light on your divine identity when He draws near to you.
What happens when Jesus sets you free from shame and invites you into the holy circle of worshipers? I’ll tell you what happens: You go get all your friends and invite them to come and meet Him. That’s exactly what happened with the Samaritan woman! She went back to her city and told everyone about her encounter with Jesus. His love for one broken woman was so moving that the whole city turned out to meet Him. This is the power of vulnerability, transparency, and loving connection.
