[Life of David] Dying Done: Bucket List CheckedSýnishorn
The List
Have you ever heard of a “bucket list”? Do you have one? Do you know someone who has one? Maybe you made a list of things you would like to get done before your time to meet the Lord comes. That is a bucket list. Simply put, it is a collection of goals, expectations, achievements, and aspirations that you would like to accomplish within your lifetime. It is a list of things you would like to do, places you wish you could visit, people you would like to meet, fears to overcome, things to buy, things to say to certain people, a compilation of personal to–do’s written in your journal, on a piece of paper maybe hidden somewhere in your bedroom, or in the notes section of your phone.
I would like to go to Australia. That is one of the items on my bucket list. I have never been to Australia before. I want to be on that bridge that looks at the Sydney Opera House. I hope I can walk across that bridge and take it all in: the view, the fresh air, the water, to be able to see all that.
Do you know what could be the best item on all of our bucket lists? The one thing that could erase every single item on our actual bucket list, and still make us feel like our lives are complete: fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives. We can find many examples of this in the Bible. According to the book of Acts, King David died after fulfilling the purpose of God for his life. That is THE bucket list item. It does not really matter if we see the northern lights, the fall foliage, go to Australia, or go to a big-time sporting event. The greatest thing we could ever have is being able to check the box of fulfilling God’s purpose for our life. That would be the greatest thing.
Jesus didn’t travel very far during His time on earth. He was right around His hometown. Nonetheless, He fulfilled God’s purpose in His life. And what an amazing purpose He fulfilled! The Son of God became flesh, died for each one of us, overcame death, forgave our sins, and gave us eternal salvation.
What an amazing thing it would be to finish our days knowing that we have fulfilled God’s purpose for us in our generation!

About this Plan
The bucket list that satisfies the heart is fulfilling the purposes of God. As we fall in love with Him, seek to know Him, and remain faithful to Him, His purposes will find us. From that space, we can die “done” with a bucket list checked off and a life fulfilled.
