Good Shepherd 3-Day Devotional With Andrea OlsonSýnishorn
Psalm 23:1-2, in The Passion Translation, says, “Yahweh is my best friend, my Shepherd. I always have more than enough. He offers a resting place for me in His luxurious love. His tracks take me to an oasis of peace near the quiet brook of bliss.”
More than enough. I recently read those words aloud at an event and was overwhelmed. The words jumped off the page, and I was awestruck by the reminder that I always have more than enough in Him. Life can be complex, noisy, or confusing at times. But even in those times, we lack nothing. Just stop for a moment. Don’t miss that. Let it sink in. We have more than enough in Him.
Let’s start today with a pause in His Presence. Take a moment and tell God where you’re lacking.
Now ask Him to show you how He fills that void.
Write down what He speaks to your heart.
Friend, no matter what you’re facing, you have an open-ended invitation to His resting place that offers everything you could ever need. I don’t know about you, but I have longed for that resting place. Sometimes I forget that it’s available to me all of the time!
In 2022, I wrote and released a song inspired by Psalm 23 called Good Shepherd. The chorus says,
My closest friend, my confidence.
The safest shelter I can run to
And though I fail, You never will
So I’ll stay tethered to my good Shepherd
This song reminds us of God’s goodness and all the amazing attributes we have access to in Him. He gives us confidence and shelter so that we never have to fear. And even when we fail, His grace is everlasting and abounding. All we need to do is stay tethered to Him because through everything we face...He has everything we need!
God wants us to rest in Him. But we have to choose to pursue it. I have to schedule down time where I purposefully say no to things (often good things) to have time to rest and reconnect to Him—ensuring that I stay tethered to my Shepherd through all things.
Today ask the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart and then be still. Grab your journal and write down all that He says to you.
If that is new to you, I’m glad you’re beginning this journey. Begin with this prayer, and then write down your thoughts afterward.
Lord, I surrender my heart and mind to you. Speak to me; I’m listening. I’m here for no other reason than to be with you. What do you want to say to me today? Thank you for Your goodness. Help me to rest in You alone today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
