Living by God's CommandmentsSýnishorn
This Will Open Your Eyes!... The Tenth Commandment
"'You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife…or anything that belongs to your neighbor.'" (Exodus 20:17 NIV)
Often when we apply these commandments to our lives, we are quick to see the prohibition rather than the loving protection God offers us through each one of them. May I ask…what does the tenth commandment look like in your life today?
I'd like to share a personal example with you. When I went to visit a friend in her beautiful home, my first thought was "I'd like to have something like this! Hmm…if I had worked a regular job rather than pursue my calling, I probably could've had this, too…"
These are the kind of doubts and thoughts the devil delights in because, in these moments, we undermine God's power and possibilities. I'm sure you don't want to delight the devil, do you?! I believe that's exactly why God says, "Don't covet what belongs to others because everything belongs to Me, and I know what's best for you. Trust Me that I can give you what's best for you." :-)
Do you know what happens when you give of yourself and your resources to God, trusting that He's in control? In the Bible, we read, "You will be made rich in every way. Then you can always give freely." (2 Corinthians 9:11NIRV) You will be blessed so you can be a giver yourself!
When I realized this, I stopped wishing for what my friend had and instead chose to speak faith into my situation. I started praying, asking God to decide for me whether a new home for me would be best, and I chose to trust that He would provide what I needed. Through this situation, I got to experience once again: "God is faithful!"
God's commandments aren't prohibitions meant to steal our joy—they are offers of miraculous blessings that help us remember His faithfulness!
We waste time when we covet what others have. We sink into self-pity when we perpetually chase these thoughts, doubting God and His best. If we expose the lies and doubts and present our desires directly to God, we'll see that in Him, we have everything!
Do you desire what others have? Don't give the devil the pleasure of stealing your joy any longer. Rather, bring your prayers and faith to God, and do you know what? You'll always be amazed at the wonders that follow!
You are a miracle!
