The Beauty of Friendship - Proverbs 27
One of the greatest joys in life is God-given friendships. Stop and think about the friends in your life. Every day, as I pray through the Lord’s Prayer, I start with thanksgiving. I start with my faith, thanking God for salvation, baptism with the Holy Spirit, and all the elements of my faith. Then, I thank God for my family and my friends. Some days I spend several minutes thanking God for every friend the Lord brings to my mind. It is always so encouraging to remember them and to think about how much they love me and how they’ve encouraged me.
Paul, the apostle, was always talking about his friends. He wrote to his son in the faith, Timothy, “…night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you so that I may be filled with joy” (2 Timothy 1:3-4). At the end of 2 Timothy, we read the last written words of Paul, this great apostle of the faith who wrote two-thirds of the New Testament. Here in the book’s final section, he lists 17 different people who impacted his life. He lived his life experiencing the beauty of friendship.
“Father, thank you for the friends you have given me who love me, encourage me, and make me better! In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
