Wholeness

DAY 3 OF 10

HOW IT ALL STARTED

There is nothing worse than missing the opening 5 minutes of a movie and then watching the rest clueless as to what is going on. To fully understand the journey of wholeness, knowing the beginning of the original story is important. Understanding God’s heart in the first two chapters of the creation story paints a clear picture of what it means to be in a right relationship with Him today.

Genesis chapters one and two allow us to learn the three core attributes that make us human - love, purpose, and value. These attributes are in all human beings regardless of race, age, sex, or culture.

Love: Every single human being desires to love and be loved. 1 John 4:8 says that "God is love" - therefore, being made in His image means His thumbprint of love was impressed all over us when He knitted us together.

Purpose: Every single human being wants to know what their purpose for being alive is. When God created human beings, there was an intentionality to His plan for us; that intentionality is the blueprint behind our drive for purpose and meaning.

Value: Every single human being wants to know their value. However, we can only experience our value in the context of relationships with God and each other. Our highest understanding of value is underpinned by the truth that God desires a relationship with you.

The power of all three of these attributes is summed up at the end of Genesis chapter 2, where Adam and Eve are described as being naked without any shame. They had nothing to fear, nothing to hide, nothing to cover up - completely and utterly vulnerably exposed yet so secure in this space. By this account, we learn what it means to be secure in our relationship with God, to know the truth of your value, and to know how loved we are. The next step is then to learn to live purposefully from this position.

QUESTION TO CONSIDER:

  • Out of the three core attributes of love, purpose, and value, which do you struggle with the most?

PRAY:

God, I pray that you will take me on a journey of revealing to me what it means to be securely loved by you, deeply knowing my value and purpose in you. This is the desire of my heart.

About this Plan

Wholeness

Psalms 18:20-24 says, “GOD made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him.” Wholeness is a 14-day journey of intentionally learning how to bring all the parts of ourselves before Him - spirit, soul, and body. It is about intentionally building our identity in Christ and not creation.
