The Wisdom Challenge: Experience the Life-Changing Power of ProverbsSýnishorn
Partner in Wisdom
Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. — Proverbs 13:20
Life’s graveyard is filled with good intentions that went nowhere, because people thought they didn’t need others on the journey. We absolutely need others to succeed in life. Others are essential to our success—and that’s particularly true in the pursuit of wisdom.
If we want to make a difference, we need to become wise, and a key method to become wise is to daily pursue wisdom with others. That is why The Wisdom Challenge isn’t for you alone; it’s for you and other people you invite to join you on the journey. Wisdom always comes in the context of relationships.
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. — Proverbs 27:17
You must walk with the wise to become wise. The Wisdom Challenge isn’t an exercise for you to read Proverbs alone. It’s a challenge to read it with someone and share what God’s teaching you through it. Sure, you can find wisdom by going through Proverbs alone. But you will find more wisdom by traveling through it with others. This brings more insight and revelation. It brings more substance and application. It brings more motivation and discipline. And it brings a better result.
The second step to The Wisdom Challenge is inviting a Proverbs Partner into your wisdom pursuit. Over the years, we have taken The Wisdom Challenge with hundreds of other people, and those people have turned around and done the challenge with thousands more. A key theme always runs through each person’s story when they share how they chose a Proverbs Partner: God puts people on hearts.
If you’re going to do The Wisdom Challenge, you’ll need a Proverbs Partner. How do you find one? The same way you find wisdom: ask God! Also, ask yourself, “Whose life would I like to enhance with the gift of wisdom?” This could be anyone you have a relationship with. Here’s a list of people we’ve taken the challenge with:
- Spouses
- Children
- Siblings
- In-laws
- Long-time friends
- Classmates
- Colleagues and clients
- Neighbors
- Teammates
Now think of how we can grow in wisdom if we partner with twelve different people over twelve months, each time going through the entire book of Proverbs! Invite someone each month to be your Proverbs Partner. Each day share your choice verse from the chapter and a brief reflection about how God is speaking to your heart.
Build a list of Proverbs Partners you can invite to join you in the pursuit of wisdom. We have already done The Wisdom Challenge with hundreds of Proverbs Partners and keep a running list of over a hundred others we plan to ask to do it with us.
Wisdom is multiplied when done with others. When we walk with the wise, we become wise. Get a Proverbs Partner and experience life-change!
“Father, I desire to do life with others. Reveal to me the people who I need to intentionally partner with so that I can become wiser. May I be a person who sharpens others because I want others to sharpen me. In Jesus’ name, amen."
