Most people hunger for something greater than they’re currently experiencing. In the faith community, where I spend a lot of my time, I sense that hunger everywhere I go. It’s a combination of people’s deep yearning to be more, do more, and experience more, and God is always in the business of doing greater things.
When we walk with Him, we constantly live within earshot of His beckoning us to new levels and next steps. It’s a divine call to step up and experience something different and better than we have ever known.
Paul said this about God: “He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing” (Eph. 2:10 MSG). Notice there is good work God already has prepared for us to do. We aren’t waiting for Him to come up with something great; He’s waiting for us to discover it and commit to it.
Only you can define the greatness you were made for. Whether you feel destined to come up with a cure for cancer, to walk on another planet, to be an executive of integrity in an industry known for corruption, or to be the best second-grade teacher who ever lived, your greatness is a personal matter. Although it will most likely involve what you do in this world, it will not be rooted in your doings; it will be rooted in your being.
