Finding Strength in God's Truth When You're Feeling Helpless and Beaten DownSýnishorn
The enemy’s goal is to beat us down so that we feel helpless and are ineffective.
You are not alone if you are feel beaten down and like the whole world is against you. There is a real devil, and his entire purpose is destruction. He hates everyone, including you and me, who are made in God’s image. Jesus Christ told us in John 10:10,“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” In John 8:44, Jesus said that “he is a liar and the father of lies.”
The enemy tries to makeus doubt God, like he did with Eve in Genesis 3:1-7. He makes us question what God has said, and question what God’s agenda really is. He tells us that his way will make us wise and look good, but remember that everything he says is a lie.
First John 2:15-17, gives us a great warning, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”In this context the Lord is warning us to guard against loving the world ‘system’; human goals, intent and the enemy’s plans for us.
God’s Word declares in John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him”.Here the Lord is referring to the world in light of the soul of every person who has ever lived. This is wonderful news, and God’s Word cannot lie!
Yet, the enemy wants us to believe that we’re not secure in God’s hand. You might be thinking ‘Maybe God likes other people, but not me; He might let me go and I might lose my place in His kingdom’. Listen to these words in John 10:28-29; Jesus says,“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”
We just can’t let the enemy’s campaign of fear and destruction defeat us. If we have surrendered our life to Jesus Christ, then we can claim this promise in Isaiah 54:17,“no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me...”
Reflection: Have you been sucked into the enemy’s lies? Cling to God’s Word and you will start to see that not only is He your deliverer, there is no need to succumb to the lies of the enemy at all. You will be able to recognize the lies of the evil one only when you learn what Truth truly is – in the eternal promises of God!
