God’s Heart For The Poor

DAY 7 OF 31

A Generous Reward

Do you want to receive a reward from God? This verse says that whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them. It seems as if God repays the generous person for his or her kindness.

The person in this verse saw the plight of a neighbor in need and stepped in to help. Their loan may have been a monetary gift or maybe it was a generous act of friendship. The poor can often not repay, but God has infinite resources.

Please note that this is not a work we do to earn our salvation. Instead, it is a reward either in this life or a future reward from God.

Two things are important here:

  • The kindness is an act of compassion. 1 Corinthians 13:3 says, “If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” Love is the key. Helping the poor is of no use if it is done for selfish gain.
  • God takes the kindness and considers it as if it were done to Him. He will reward the person for what he or she has done. We are not to look for temporary human praise. Instead, God will reward us far greater.

About this Plan

God’s Heart For The Poor

The Bible tells us that God “takes up the case” of those who have been crushed. When we follow His lead, we become an advocate for the poor—doing whatever we can to fight for justice. Over the next 30 days, we’ll take a compelling look into poverty and how God has entrusted us to respond.
