Do It Afraid- Choosing Faith in the Midst of Uncertainty

DAY 2 OF 6

Matthew 9:27-31
"As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”; and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.

So, if I'm one of the men following after Jesus, I'm hoping for two things:

1. I'm following the right person because I am blind and can't see.

2. I'm asking the right person for what I need.

Picture both men trembling and experiencing anxiety, fearing that their request could be ignored. Remember, they have only heard about the miracles Jesus can perform but have never seen it happen with their own two eyes. Yet, despite these feelings, they decided to call out to Jesus and ask for mercy, hoping that Jesus could restore their sight. Amazingly, Jesus only asked one question: "Do you believe that I can do this?" The men replied, "Yes, Lord." The story continues by saying that Jesus touched their eyes and according to their faith their sight was restored.

There is no recollection of them doing anything but making a request and trusting that who they were asking could fulfill their request. It never says that the men were bold or courageous, only that they asked and believed.

Today, let's take a few minutes to ask God for what we need. Let's pray.

God,

In Matthew 9:27-31, I read that you healed the eyes of two blind men. I don't know all the details, but I do know you're the same God. Thank you for giving me examples in your word that help build my faith and trust in you. Lord, today I need (fill in your need).

I put my trust in your word and have decided despite any fear or feelings, I trust you to fulfill my need. May I continue to exercise my faith by trusting you and believing in your word, knowing full well you still perform miracles daily. I love you and I thank you in advance. May what you do for me cause me to spread the news about you all over my region.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

About this Plan

Do It Afraid- Choosing Faith in the Midst of Uncertainty

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear (Franklin D. Roosevelt). When God makes us a promise or we need Him to show up in the midst of our situation, the only requirement asked of us is to believe. We hear all the time that we should be fearless & courageous. But, what if God only requires our Faith?
