Biblical Repentance: Finding Forgiveness and Peace

DAY 5 OF 5

Embracing Jesus and finding peace through repentance

The focus of Jesus Christ’s mission was to call sinners to repentance: “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” His call of absolute surrender goes out to all people: “But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” In His farewell to the disciples, Jesus commanded that they take His message of repentance and faith to all the nations.

We have learned that repentance in the Bible involves a complete and irreversible change of mind, heart, and actions. Repentance recognizes our sin is offensive to God. To repent means to make an about-face, heart-directed turn away from self to God, from the past to a future ruled by God’s commands, acknowledging that the Lord reigns supreme over one’s existence.

Four elements characterize true biblical repentance:

1) True repentance involves a sense of awareness of one’s guilt, sinfulness, and helplessness.

2) True repentance apprehends or takes hold of God’s mercy in Jesus Christ.

3) True repentance means a change of attitude and action regarding sin. Hatred of sin turns the repentant person away from their sin to God.

4) True repentance results in radical and persistent pursuit of holy living, walking with God in obedience to His commands.

True peace comes from embracing all aspects of repentance and trusting Jesus in all things.

Heavenly Father, please bring about repentance in my life and allow me to be a Light and Beacon to others. Please complete your purpose in my life. In the precious name of Jesus and by His Grace, Amen.
