The Power of Faith Sýnishorn
JUST BELIEVE
In 1989, while flying his small plane in the middle of a severe storm, Geoffrey Gorsuch reported that he was unable to operate his plane because he couldn’t see a distance of 20 feet ahead. At ground level, signals were sent to five radios and three aircraft navigation aids. These devices guide us through the storm to get to the runway. There are times when confusion in the clouds can be fatal - when all of our senses seem to indicate that the plane's equipment is lying (which sends us into a panic) and pilot error is unavoidable. But I've been trained to trust this equipment. And I did. When we were out of the clouds 100 feet from the runway and at perfect altitude for landing, all I had to do was reduce power and speed and allow the plane to land on the runway. And when the emergency vehicle and the flashing lights and sirens began to approach the plane, I knew I didn't need any of those things. I trust the equipment. I'm the pilot – and I believe in that.
Today’s devotional:
The same thing applies to God. God has given us spiritual tools to weather the storm clouds of the human condition. Can we interpret it? Are we going to believe it after receiving the message? That is the essence of faith.
The basis of faith and knowledge is belief in God (Charles Hodge).
