The ABC's of a Faithful Life

DAY 3 OF 6

Why do we trust God’s word as truth?

Read Psalm 119:41–72

Imagine placing yourself in the hands of a surgeon you didn’t feel you could trust.

If you haven’t come to trust the Author of the Bible, believing what it says is difficult. People who know God sometimes question his word, but we shouldn’t. God is perfect and isn’t capable of error. People aren’t perfect. In fact, our judgment often fails us. Yet despite knowing that truth about humanity, we still choose to trust those who are experts in the field of medicine and other fields that concern our well being. Shouldn’t we also choose to trust our Creator even more? Let’s see what Psalm 119 teaches us about trusting God and his word.

Waw (vahv)

  1. What does Scripture reveal about God’s love?
  2. What does living according to God’s word provide us?

Zayin (zah-yeen)

  1. How can we find comfort in God’s laws?
  2. Do you ever feel resentment toward those who don’t believe God’s word? Why?

Heth (keht)

  1. As a believer, what commitment should we make to God and what should our desire be?
  2. What should we do when others persecute us because of our faith?

Teth (teht)

  1. Why do (or why can) we trust God’s word?
  2. What can we learn from any conflict we may have with those who don’t believe the truth of Scripture?

Conclusion

“The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.” Psalm 119:72

Our Bibles are a priceless possession. The Bible teaches us to love God because that love enables us to trust God. Over and over the Bible talks about the goodness of God and his faithfulness to his word. The more we study Scripture, the more we will come to know the character of God. Our knowledge of him will only deepen our love for him and that love will propel us to want to live according to his will for our lives. Humans will always fail us at some point, but God never will—he is incapable of failure. Keep studying! God desires an intimate and deep relationship with you!

Abraham Lincoln: “I am profitably engaged in reading the Bible. Take all of this Book that you can by reason and the balance of faith, and you will live and die a better man. It is the best Book which God has given to man.”
