Glimpses of the Journey: Journeying With Jesus

DAY 1 OF 7

The Power of the Gospel

It was the week before Easter. The police officers showed up at my door, asking if everything was ok. Confused, I replied yes, all was well. They explained that someone from this residence called 911. I said it couldn’t be; it was only me and my two young children who were home at the time. They assured me that someone did, took a look around, and were satisfied that everything was ok.

When they left, my four-year-old son prayed that his two-year-old sister would tell the truth about calling 911. Clearly, he knew something that I did not! She vehemently denied being the guilty party and continued to deny it for almost a week.

Every day that week, we hid plastic eggs filled with little symbolic toys that retold the Easter account. We read the account from the Bible, and we prayed and thanked God for sending His Son.

One day as we discussed how Jesus died for our sins, in a small voice, my daughter asked, “Sins like when you call the police but say you didn’t?” I said, “Yes, exactly like that. Is there anything you want to tell me?” With tears streaming down her face, she finally confessed that yes, she had called the police.

Over the years, it has made for a funny story, but more importantly, it has been a continual reminder of the power of the Word of God and the Gospel to change hearts, minds, and ultimately lives.

This week as we examine and celebrate our Savior and the Gospel message, may we linger over the truth of what it is we are celebrating. Regardless of how familiar we are with this account, may we not rush past the significance of what Jesus did for us, what it means to us, and how worthy He is of all our praise and adoration. The Gospel is powerful. Is it any wonder that Spurgeon said, “The most important daily habit we can possess is to remind ourselves of the Gospel”?

There is certainly no better time to start the “reminding” than this week, and as we do, may we proclaim, “Hallelujah! What a Savior!”

About this Plan

Glimpses of the Journey: Journeying With Jesus

“Passion Week” (or Holy Week), the week between Palm Sunday and Easter, reflects upon the passion displayed by Jesus as He endured the excruciating pain of the cross. Through this 7 day plan of select passages taken from His final week, we posture our hearts to praise Him for all He has done, marvel at His gift of salvation, and remember how much He loves and cares for His children.
