Can the Resurrection Change My Life?Sýnishorn
In this world, we are confronted with the specter of death nearly every day. Most people have lost someone to who they were close. Death is not a subject that most people want to discuss. But God tells us that there is something we must put to death every day.
We are to slay, or put to death, immorality, impure thoughts, lust, longing for what is forbidden, greediness. That is the way the unsaved world lives. A child of God should not allow these things to have rule in their lives.
If you are struggling with any of these sins, the power of the resurrection can help you overcome them. So every morning when you get up, pray, “Lord, I don’t want to do those things anymore, please give me the power to overcome those sinful behaviors.”
That list of sins is full of things that most people would agree are “bad” sins, but Paul lists what some Christians might consider to be “sanctified sins” that we all do. We are to put off anger, wrath, malice, lying, and filthy language. Christians need to live differently. Those things should not be part of our lives anymore. If they are, we are not mortifying the flesh.
Colossians 3:10 is an important verse. First, we are to mortify, or put off, the old man, but then we are to put on the new man. It is like a set of clothes. Every morning you put on fresh clean clothes. You do not put on dirty, smelly clothes. In the same way, do not start the day with the old nature; put on the new nature. Ask God to help you live the new man's life, renewed in knowledge.
The power of the resurrection of Jesus gives us a new way – put on the new man. No longer does the old nature have to control you. It is dead, and it will not control you if you do not exercise it or feed it.
The same power of God that raised Jesus from the grave is still available to you today. We are saved by the power of God; we are kept by the power of God, and we can walk in the newness of life through the power of God.
About this Plan
We live in a crazy world that is drifting farther away from God by the day, but the power of Jesus’ resurrection is life-changing. The same power of God that raised Jesus from the grave is still available to you today. Let’s tap into that living hope so we can serve the Lord in a way that we never could before.
