Come to the Table

DAY 2 OF 6

The Passover evening that Jesus was celebrating with His disciples also coincided with the Feast of the Temple. Jerusalem was packed with Jews from everywhere coming to celebrate the Passover and offer sacrifices at the temple.

They were celebrating something deeply rooted in their history. It was the birth of the nation Israel, a special people chosen by God after they crossed the Red Sea.

Jesus was celebrating this feast with His disciples. Many things that Jesus did were prophetic. Ideally, they should have been celebrating it with their families; the picture of these 12 around the table was a prophetic picture – the new family in Jesus.

We are gathered around the Lord’s Table as one family, as we all belong to God our Father. The Lord’s Table would also mark the beginning of a new chosen people, a royal priesthood and Holy nation belonging to God. The Cross was going to unite people gathered from every tribe, tongue, nation, male and female: all becoming One New Man in Christ, fulfilling prophecies of old.

What did Jesus want us to remember? Let’s reflect on that tomorrow.
