Single Women of the Bible: Seeing God No Matter Your Relationship Status Sýnishorn
Mary Magdalene: Luke 7
During Jesus’ time on earth, we know that He valued women, despite their “lower-class” place in society. He showed them respect, He honored them, and they were the first people He appeared to after He resurrected.
In Luke 7:36 we see Jesus invited to the home of a Pharisee. What a scene for some drama to occur! Enter: Mary Magdalene, who many believe was a “sinful” woman, brought an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume. She poured it on his feet and showed a sign of deep gratitude, repentance, and extravagant love. She gave her best to Jesus and she didn’t care what anyone thought of her.
Do we give our best to Jesus, even when our life is difficult, our relationship status isn’t where we want it to be, or we’re ridiculed and judged by others? Do we push through all the noise, the fear of judgment, and what others think, and give extravagant love and gratitude for all He has given us?
People were ready to judge and say her gift was a waste, and she could have spent the money anywhere or everywhere else. She knew who was worth it and where to show value. She knew how Jesus loved and valued her and felt safe and secure to express that back to Him. In verse 7:47, Jesus called what Mary gave Him an act of “great love.”
May we show Jesus, we love Him, unashamedly, whole-heartedly, and sacrificially. May we give Him our best in a season of singleness and bask in His love, His grace, and tenderness to us.
I hope this devotional has helped you to trust Jesus and draw near to him in your season of singleness. If you a ready to take the next step in moving towards a relationship, come visit me at Therapyfordating.com.
