A Church in Motion

DAY 3 OF 5

Walking IN Jesus

Colossians 2:6–7 (ESV): "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving."

Growth happens step by step, and here in second chapter of Colossians, Paul is earnestly encapsulating for the church what these steps look like. Here we see that having received Jesus Christ as Lord, the next step is to walk IN him. What does walking in him look like? And how can we apply that to our lives?

In; surrounded by; in the company of; intricately connected; submerged. Walking IN Jesus looks like walking in his company, in his presence daily. What Paul is conveying here is the intimate relationship we begin to cultivate with Jesus once we welcome him into our lives. This is a step we take in the beginning days of our Christian life, and it is one that we sometimes wane from when the demands of life distract and rob us of our devotional time.

Yet, steadily walking in him leads us to be rooted, built-up and established in our faith. As we spend time with Jesus, reading scripture and spending time in prayer, we get to know him better, just as we do with any relationship. As we walk with him, we discover the pleasing benefits of trusting him with every aspect of our lives. Our faith is deepened as we taste and see that the Lord is good, causing us to abound in thanksgiving!

These are the steps that build an unshakeable faith, as it comes from your personal experience of living with Jesus. An experience that no one can take away, or dissuade you from with clever words or philosophies. This, as Paul writes in Colossians 2:2-4, is knowing the mystery of God – Jesus – so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.

What step can you take today to deepen your relationship with Jesus? And what can you thank him for as you recall your journey with him this far?

About this Plan

A Church in Motion

A church in motion - never stuck or stagnant in our walk with Jesus, but always taking steps; not leaps, but continual steps of growth in God.
