Dwell & Delight in the Word Sýnishorn
TAKING OUR STUDY DEEPER:
"Since ancient times, Habakkuk has been grouped in the Jewish canon as part of the “Book of the Twelve.” In the Hebrew Bible, the last 12 books were written on one scroll and considered one book. These short prophetic books are commonly known as the Minor Prophets, in what Christians refer to as the Old Testament. Habakkuk and the other books in this unit are not minor in importance. They are designated “Minor Prophets” because they are much smaller than the longer prophetic books designated the Major Prophets (e.g., Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel)."
A NOTE OF ENCOURAGMENT
from Dannah Gresh
We often believe the lie that joy and peace cannot coexist with fear and grief.
Our anxiety and sorrow become joy and peace when we use them to drive our thoughts to God. Acknowledge the emotions, but don’t give them the last word. That belongs to Jesus. You get to choose. Almost two decades ago, Bob (my husband) and I made an intentional decision to look at our times of stress as an opportunity to discover the joy and peace of Jesus Christ.
Joy: (noun) How I define the confident conviction that God is in control of everything.
If we stand on God’s Truth, not only will we experience joy and peace that’s beyond comprehension this side of the flames, but we will also be set free. The fire loses its power to burn us, but it licks through our bondage and becomes our freedom. The fire becomes our freedom when it burns the unbelief right out of us. But that only happens if you draw a line in the sand and choose to respond with rejoicing.
Listen to “It Is Well” by Caleb & Kelsey.
Write your own “Yet I will rejoice” song today. List some things that aren’t going well in life right now or that you’re concerned are heading in a bad direction for your life. End your song with a commitment to rejoice in the Lord no matter what.
