Fight for Us: Win Back the Marriage God Intends for YouSýnishorn
The ultimate mission of every believer is to reach the world for Jesus by loving God and loving others as we love ourselves. Our starting point for loving others, what we might call mission one, is our spouses and families. Because we live in a world that is hostile to the things of God, we have to remember that the enemy wants us to fail. The challenge is that we cannot see this enemy, which makes the battle exponentially more difficult. It also increases the odds that we’ll get confused about who we’re fighting.
If you’ve been married for any length of time, chances are you’ve had times when it seems as though your spouse is the enemy standing in the way of what you want, of getting your needs met, or of having a thriving relationship. You will without a doubt experience challenges in your job or in other relationships, but you will face immeasurable challenges in your marriage, especially if you want to have a relationship that is more than just getting by. Listen, in your marriage, it may seem as if the quirks or habits you once admired and loved about each other are the enemies, or maybe your past mistakes or those of your spouse are the enemies. Whenever that happens, pay attention, because it’s a warning sign that an enemy is definitely at work in your marriage. But know that your spouse is not that enemy. The real enemy of your marriage is unseen.
It is critical for us to identify the real enemy in our lives, the one who wants to completely annihilate our marriages, our families, and our futures. After that we can better identify and recognize his strategies. Marriage empowers us to join forces, so we can fight together and fight for—rather than against—each other. Remember, God can use willing vessels, but so can the enemy.
Prayer
Lord, please help me identify the enemy and to love my spouse as you have loved me. Please help me and my spouse fight for each other instead of against each other. Amen.
