Day#6. True faith is filled with common sense
When we want to follow Jesus, listen to the Holy Spirit and walk by faith, we sometimes forget to use our common sense. The Holy Spirit communicates with our spirit, and our intelligence must be quiet, without stopping the thinking process though! I say this because some people, wanting to be spiritual at all costs, do really weird things with disastrous consequences.
If a pragmatic friend thinks your decision is stupid and he has arguments, take time to consider his arguments and ask yourself if you have not forgotten common sense in your search for God's will.
God often works with natural things. For example, if you have seen/heard people, justifying a lot of bad decisions with "God told me," "I had peace," or "I had faith," you may have become allergic to those expressions (I will talk to you about peace tomorrow).
However, I can tell you that it is possible to follow God by faith and succeed. To do so, we must understand that faith is a calculated risk-taking that relies on our ability to recognize God's voice. To make a decision by faith is not to be optimistic, but the result of a process of reflection, seeking God's will and examining what we believe we have received from the Holy Spirit in the light of the Bible. The greater the risk, the more we should trust (and this trust only develops with experience) that God has spoken to us and the more we should make sure to validate this direction with confirmations from various sources (conviction, dreams, Rhema words, advice, validation from our spouse, inner peace, etc.).
The righteous will live by faith. Faith may seem foolish at times, but when by faith we do what God has told us, he acts. Then we are not ashamed, for it becomes clear that it was He who spoke to us.
I therefore advise you to take the posture of an apprentice. Begin now to seek God's will for small decisions, so your confidence in your ability to recognize His voice will increase and be sufficient when it comes to making important decisions. Faith is not static; Jesus makes it grow as we walk in His footsteps, our eyes fixed on Him, at the sound of His voice.
I invite you to pray with me : Let’s pray together
Father, I beg You to renew my understanding, to grant me Your wisdom to protect me from errors, and to be able to examine what You tell me and follow You by faith.
