JOYFUL LIVING
Now that we are inspired to give generously, what about the rest of each ordinary day? How do we find joy in the normal times of each day when we work and do what we have to? By doing what is right.
In 1 Corinthians 13, we read that love, the personification of God, "rejoices whenever the truth wins out" (v. 6, NLT). And in Psalm 97:11: "Light shines on the godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right." That gives great purpose for everyday living!
When you go to work, look for ways to do things right. For example, when you promise to return a call within the next ten minutes, do it! When you listen to people talking in line at the grocery shop, proclaim the truth. For example, when someone mentions how everything is going downhill, remind them that God is in control. So many opportunities to find joy!
But what about when things go wrong? Even then you can have joy. God's command to be joyful is has an incentive once again. "Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing" (James 1:2-4, NLT).
How do you feel when doing the right thing?
What can you do to make sure that the truth wins out?
Let us find joy in every moment given to us each day. "Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again – rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4, NLT).
