Living WaterSýnishorn
Jesus takes off our masks
“The woman said to him, ‘Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.’” (John 4:19)
Jesus was talking about living water, but the woman did not understand His words. Then Jesus switched to a different subject. He suddenly told the woman: “Go, call your husband, and come here”. When she answered him that she had no husband, Jesus showed her his omniscience. He told her exactly what her life looked like: she had had five husbands, and the one she now had, was not her husband.
This was not something to be proud of. In all likelihood, the woman would not have shared this information with a stranger. But Jesus’ words made her realize: this man knows what is inside of me. He knows everything about my life! She concluded that Jesus must be a prophet, which was an important step towards recognizing his true identity.
The fact that Jesus knew everything about her, also opened the way to address her deepest questions. Her mask was gone, and therefore she could go straight to the core and ask Him, “Where do I find God?”. We’ll discuss this question more deeply tomorrow. For now, it is important to notice that we too need to open our hearts for God if we really want to find Him. We can’t have a personal relationship with Him if we keep our sins hidden.
Are you willing to lay your heart open to God?

About this Plan
The Gospel of John shows us who Jesus is. In chapter 4, we read how Jesus reveals Himself in a conversation with a Samaritan woman at a well. This story contains many lessons for us. John has written it down for us, “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31)
