Red Letter Challenge: The 11-Day Discipleship ExperienceSýnishorn
Day 11: You Going
“You will be my witnesses.” Acts 1:8
As you live your life, remember that you are telling a story. You have the opportunity to tell the story of Jesus by what you do and say in this life. We can change the perception that people have of Jesus and His followers. By getting into a habit of reading and doing the words of Jesus, you will be living a story worth telling.
Many of us want to follow Jesus only when it’s easy and safe. The moment it gets hard, we tend to lose faith and question God. In your Bible reading today, you read about Moses having many doubts when God called him to go and help bring freedom to the Israelites. And yet, God assured Moses that He would be with Him.
God will call you to stretch outside of your comfort zone. God will bring you to go to places beyond where you could go on your human strength. God will call you to do things that the rest of the world would call crazy. On the days where God asks you to do what you usually would never do, the easy and safe thing would be to leave it incomplete and keep moving on.
Too many Christians have been invited to go on the trip but are missing out on the adventure!
So let’s return once again to Jesus’ final red letters in Acts 1:8. Yesterday we were reminded that we are God’s witnesses to the ends of the earth. Every one of us has a unique story to tell of God’s goodness. But it’s the red letters that He said right before this final command that gives me hope for today: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you."
In the hard days, our comfort lies in the fact that when God says, “Go,” just like He was with Moses, He will always go with you. We do not go alone. His Spirit goes with us. He will never leave you or forsake with you. When you go beyond your comfort levels, you get to experience parts of God that you otherwise would miss out on. Not only that, but when you share your story and speak the Good News of God, you allow Him to work mightily in the life of someone else.
When we decide to follow Jesus, we surrender our need to be in control of everything. It can certainly be scary, but I would argue that it is far more rewarding, exciting, and adventurous to follow Jesus. Following Jesus is the single most incredible opportunity of our lifetime. So let’s go, now, and follow Jesus!
