Don't Toss Away Your Responsibility!
Apathy is widespread in America. And it doesn’t just affect Americans. Christians battle with apathy as well, which is sad because Christians are called to love others and put the needs of others above their own. However, we often are quick to complain and blame, but not quick to do anything about it. Instead of becoming proactive, many Christians would rather toss the responsibility to someone else. The problem with this kind of treatment is nothing ever gets done. Christians have come to believe that someone else will do the heavy lifting, so it doesn’t really matter.
But it does matter. And Christians need to wake up out of their slumber and start doing something about it. Passing off problems to someone else is what’s gotten families, churches, and even relationships in the mess they are in.
If apathy has had a stronghold on your life, ask God to release it from your life. Pray for the willpower to overcome apathy with action.
In Romans 12, Paul offers some powerful ways to actively perform spiritual service to others.
Apathetic people are indifferent. They show no signs of caring and sharing. They are basically dead to the world. But if more people lived out Romans 12 in their lives, it would drive them out of apathy and into an active life of total transformation.
Ask yourself: How do I want to be remembered? Do I want my family to remember me as apathetic? Or do I want my loved ones to remember me as a person who served the needs of others?
