Thankful Every Day

DAY 4 OF 4

Thankful Because These Things Are Forever

Psalm 100 and many places in the Bible teach us that we should be people who are "Thanksgiving people." We are told that our posture toward God should be one of praise and Thanksgiving and that our life circumstances should not change this fact. The reasons listed in Psalm 100 that we should always come before the Lord with praise and thanksgiving are because the Lord is God, we are His, and He is good. In other words, the ultimate power and authority over all things are our Lord; we belong to Him; and He is always completely, perfectly good. These are a set of truths that explain why we should give thanks to God regardless of the circumstances we may be in at any given moment. The Psalm ends, however, with one more great truth that should fill our hearts with praise. These things are forever!

Psalm 100:5 says: "For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting, and His faithfulness to all generations." God's love doesn't stop. It is everlasting.

God was faithful to Abraham, Moses, David, the disciples, and the early church. God was faithful to Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, and all those in the time of the reformation. God was faithful to John Wesley, George Whitfield, Charles Spurgeon, Dwight Moody, and Charles Finney. God was faithful to William Carey, Amy Carmichael, and William Booth. God was faithful to Billy Graham and even to "Bob," the local pastor at the little church near where we are.

God is not only faithful to evangelists,  missionaries, and pastors but also to every believer. His faithfulness endures to ALL generations!

Everything about God is forever because God is eternal. God's love will not run out. His kindness toward us is everlasting. He won't get tired of being good or of offering His love to us.

God has said in His Word that He does not change, and we know that "Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever." The greatness of our God does not change. The goodness of our God does not change. The power and authority of our God do not change.

This is why we can be full of praise and thanksgiving regardless of our life situation at any given moment. We can be assured that the God who knows what is best for us also wants what is best for us, and He has the power to do what is best for us. We may not always understand all of His ways, but we can know that "His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations." Praise the name of the Lord!
