God’s Voice: The Gentle Whisper After The FireSýnishorn
“Listen For His Gentle Whisper”
“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” The Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, The Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but The Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but The Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but The Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:11-12 NLT)
Being able to hear and recognize the voice of God above everything and everyone else is a vital part of us walking out this thing called life with the Lord. As believers and followers of Christ, it’s essential we stay connected to the Vine that is Him. Jesus said it this way, “My sheep recognize My Voice. I know them and they follow Me.” (John 10:27 MSG)
I think most of the time we’re busy looking for God to speak to us and show us things in these grandeur ways and gestures and, trust me, He can definitely do that! However, the truth is, the Lord is always speaking to us. I believe that more often than not, it’s like 1 Kings 19:12 states, His voice is the sound of a gentle whisper.
It’s important to quiet our minds and hearts and spend time resting in God’s Presence and in His word daily. He’s speaking to us all throughout the day and the night, but I personally feel like it is that sacred, intentional, intimate time that we carve out just to be with Him is where He reveals the secrets of His heart to us.
