Lord, Help My Critical Heart

DAY 6 OF 6

Follow Jesus’ Example

So you’ve made it this far. You’re committed to moving forward in the freedom and fruitfulness of Jesus’s way. Sometimes moving forward seems to make us more aware of our failings.

Rather than focusing on the sinful habits that you want to break, agree with God’s heart for you. Intentionally look toward sanctification. He is transforming more and more of us into His likeness each day until the process of sanctification will be complete when you stand before Him one day.

Putting on our new nature is a conscious decision to humbly ask Him to intervene in our hearts and lives. We could trust God and still keep His transforming power at arms’ length. Being formed into His likeness means (1) letting Him into the details of our daily life and (2) being willing to let go of our opinions and preferences.

The way of Jesus is humble. He is not self-seeking or self-serving. He is a selflessly sacrificial leader. In Him, we are made whole and holy. We can choose righteousness over rightness. There is no room for insisting on our own way; for bitterness, backbiting, or sniping at our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Jesus said, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” If Jesus lived in your life, what would he do? Who would he serve? How would he serve them?

Surrender step: The next time you feel tempted to pick someone apart, compare yourself, or focus on the negative- ask God to help you see them through His eyes. Ask Him to open your eyes to see how you can follow His servant-leader example.

NEXT STEP:

Prayer is the single most transformational thing you can do. Use our House Prayer Cards to use mundane moments for Godly purpose in your life. These cards will remind you to pray and give you prayer prompts as you go about your day in your home. Learn more and get this great resource here.
