DAY 4 OF 5

LET IT RAIN

“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1

We can go without food for many days but only three days without water. The majority of our body is made up of water, so quite literally it gives us life. And we forget how much we need it until it’s in short supply. Have you ever been thirsty and had to patiently wait for a drink? And oh how refreshing it was when it finally came!

There are times where we keenly feel a spiritual thirst personally, and there are also times where, because of great suffering, great masses of people feel this desperate dryness.

Our world is crying out for the rain of spiritual renewal. There is so much brokenness. It’s hard to catch our breath in between all of the heart rending stories of human suffering. Peoples’ hearts are gripped with fear of what tomorrow may bring and it feels as if we are divided as we have ever been.

But as bleak as the times may seem, God is on the move! His ear is ever attentive to our cries, and the clouds are gathering.

Don’t forget that He too walked on the dry ground of our weary world. He knew what it felt like to be thirsty. He cried out on the cross for a drink only to be offered sour wine. He suffered a thirst that wasn’t quenched so that we could drink of the “living water that would never run dry” and “thirst no more.”

So, when we sing “let it rain,” it is a prayer that we would experience the waters of refreshing that Jesus paid for! That our dry and thirsty world would find their life in Him.

Let us keep praying fervently that we will see God’s glory rain down again on our nation, our cities, our families, and our churches! Open the floodgates, oh God!
