Take Back Your Family 5-Day Plan

DAY 5 OF 5

One of the biggest scriptural principles linked to groups, teams, and families is the concept of “blessed to be a blessing,” which is a mantra we say a lot in our home. Abraham, one of the chief architects of this multigenerational family-team vision, was blessed with the promise of a son so that all the nations would be blessed.

It’s like a stream. Have you ever seen water that comes in one way but has nowhere to go? There’s a word for that—stagnant. It pools up, turns green, stinks and smells, and provides no value; in fact, it becomes a liability! That’s a family oriented around consumption.

But a family oriented around contribution is a stream that receives blessing from God in one direction and then let’s that flow out of them to the other side providing life, nourishment, and refreshment as a crystal-clear river to others.

And so, in many ways, even though we are six years into this family-course correction toward God’s idea, we are very much in its infancy. Whether your kids are adults and married and “moved on” or you just had your first child, it’s never too late to lean into God’s heart and vision. For starters, he’s a God full of grace for the moment and allows us to always “start from now.” The grace covers us and enables us today to take one more step toward him. And two, even if you are fifty years “late” in a project that’s going to take five hundred years, then that’s really not that late, is it? Think of your great-great-great-great-grandchildren and the legacy you want to leave, and that is where you are going and where God wants to take your family team.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless my family and to give each of us a heart that serves you. Please help us to share your love and grace with others as we build a legacy that points others to you. Amen.
