Daily Bible Reading – September 2021, God’s Word of WisdomSýnishorn
September 23
Introduction
Today’s reading begins with the Philosopher stating that he wanted to “find out what happiness is” and, despite all his accomplishments, continues to describe everything as useless.
Today’s Scripture Reading
Ecclesiastes 2:1-26
Today’s Key Verse: Ecclesiastes 2:13b
“Wisdom is better than foolishness, just as light is better than darkness.”
Reflect
How many times does the word “useless” appear in today’s reading? How does the Philosopher describe his accomplishments? What things in life does the Philosopher describe as useless? Reread verse 26. Do you agree with what the Philosopher says here? Why or why not? How does the Philosopher’s view compare with what Jesus says about saving “your riches in heaven” (Luke 12:33 from the September 4 reading) or what he says about “worldly wealth” versus “true wealth” (Luke 16:11 from the September 10 reading)?
Pray
Lord God, you are my source of life and true happiness. I know that true wisdom is having reverence for you, and I thank and praise you for your grace and love. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those searching for happiness in material wealth
Tomorrow’s Reading
Ecclesiastes 3:1-22: God sets the time for everything.
