Daily Bible Reading – August 2021: God’s Word of PromiseSýnishorn
August 17
Introduction
Today’s reading describes the blessings the people will receive if they obey God and faithfully keep his commands.
Today’s Scripture Reading
Deuteronomy 28:1-14
Today’s Key Verse: Deuteronomy 28:9
[Moses said:] “If you obey the LORD your God and do everything he commands, he will make you his own people, as he has promised.”
Reflect
The blessings outlined in today’s reading are in contrast to the consequences of disobedience listed later in the chapter, in verses 15-68. Such blessings and consequences were often included in ancient treaties to assure that both sides would act according to the terms of the treaty. What does God promise in return for the people’s obedience? What does obeying the LORD’s commands mean to you? In what ways have you been blessed?
Pray
Lord God, I thank and praise you for the many ways you continue to bless me. Today I especially thank you for ____________________________________. Teach me to be faithful to your commands. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those who are tempted to disobey God’s commands.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Deuteronomy 29:1-29: Moses tells the people that they must keep their covenant with God.
