Shine Your Light in Darkness

DAY 3 OF 3

DAY 3 — God’s Remedy for Dark & Trying Times

In this devotional, we have seen that our ultimate turnaround begins as we allow the entrance of God’s Word to bring us Light. God has made us righteous in Him. Because of this beautiful relationship we have with Him, our path gets brighter and brighter, so we can expect good to come to us from Him every day. Psalm 23:6 says, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.”

We are children of Light, so we can bring forth Light out of the midst of darkness as we speak God’s Word, just as He did in the book of Genesis. We look to God our Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit Who illuminates our hearts. We embrace our identity as children of Light. We speak the light of His Word into the darkness and see the darkness disappear, just like He did.

These are dark and trying times indeed. Research shows that even one in five churches are in danger of closing their doors forever as a result of the pandemic. That’s a lot of Light being extinguished! This is a season in which the world needs more Light, not less!

Psalm 119 offers up 176 verses worth of remedy: the unfolding of God’s Word brings Light! I encourage you to read through Psalm 119 and agree with God for the light to come forth as you do. Allow it to unfold in your heart, and it will bring His Light to you so you will have more Light to give to others around you.

Now is the time for us to embrace our roles as Light-bearers! Now is the time for us to double our efforts to speak God’s Word and bring forth light!

How else can we bring this Light?

As difficult as things have been for you and me, there are always people who are worse off; people who are struggling and suffering. We have an opportunity—and a responsibility—to help them see the light. The prophet Isaiah gives us the secret to light breaking forth:

“If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday” (Isaiah 58:10).

Don’t miss the precious promise in this verse: as you compassionately and generously give to help others, your own darkness gives way to light. Night gives way to glorious day!

Choose to be on the giving side of life. Offer the hope and encouragement of God’s Word to people living in darkness by giving, praying, and staying connected to God and His people, the Church.

No matter how dark your situation may get, the Light of God shines brighter, providing us with supernatural hope, confidence, trust, joy, and peace. God thrives in the darkest times. You can trust in His Light!
