12 Study Devotional By Hillsong Young & FreeSýnishorn
“Face to Face”
I remember when I learned to pray
Close to you I find my hiding place
REVIVAL THOUGHT
Imagine meeting your all-time hero face to face. How incredible would that be?! It would be so different to seeing them in a magazine or TV, and way more real than anything you follow on social media. You could actually have a conversation and find out for yourself what their thoughts are, how they feel about certain things and what they like to do for fun.
Prayer with God is very much like that – a personal conversation with someone you may have heard about or listened to other people talk about.
It's talking with God face to face.
Therefore learning to pray is not about remembering the right words to say – it's about building a friendship with God by spending time with him. When we spend time hanging out with him, we find out more about Him and the more we love Him.
Talking to someone for the first time can sometimes feel awkward, but the more you hang out the easier it becomes - suddenly they’re so much a part of your life that you can't imagine your life without them! The more we pray, the more we realize how natural it is for us to talk to him, because we are spiritual beings – we were designed to connect with God; to hear from him and speak to him. He becomes our safe place, a secret meeting of two friends where we are free to be ourselves.
And the greatest thing about prayer is that we can have this conversation with God whenever we want, wherever we want! We don’t have to enter a lottery draw to win a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be in his presence. His presence is available to us at every moment and we can hear from God through the Bible, worship, journaling, & self-reflection.
All we have to do is call the name of our friend, the name of Jesus.
HEART CHECK
1) If you could meet anyone in the world today who would it be, and what question would you ask them?
2) Do you have a favorite place where you like to talk to God?
3) How can you spend time talking to God this week?
WALK IT OUT
Allow God to speak to you when you’re out and about this week - try talking to God when you’re at school or on the bus (you can pray in your heart or write down your prayers in a book or on your phone).
